ps-2014-homePractical Sailor Ranks On the Water ChartGuides Top Pick in Two-Month ICW Testing

Everyone appreciates the rigorous testing and unbiased reporting of Practical Sailor. But we have to admit, they’re tough and we were more than a little anxious when contacted for “review copies” for their two-month on-the-ICW test. As a non-profit, unable to afford advertising, we are rarely mentioned in magazines. We are proud of our work and thankful to PS for the opportunity to compete…and win!

On March 1, 2014 semi-local publications LLC (dba On the Water ChartGuides) ceased commercial operations. Going forward, and operating as a non-profit, Mark and Diana Doyle’s efforts will be to deliver “Almost Free” cruising and anchoring guides to boaters transiting the Intracoastal Waterway between Hampton Roads, Virginia and Biscayne Bay, Florida.

The first step toward “Almost Free” was dropping the price of printed guides from $29.95 to $9.95. Today, we’re introducing ebook editions at $3.99 USD. No longer constrained by color printing costs, these digital versions also include geotagged photos, raster and vector charts annotated with digital breadcrumb tracks, satellite images of the anchorages, street maps for going ashore, and audio summaries.
